A modern Scottish silver quaich, by Hamilton and Inches, of traditional form, Edinburgh 1986, length 12cm (tip to tip of lugs), £220.(in original presentation case).
The earliest silver quaichs often mimic the detailing of wooden examples and show the timber construction as engraved details. Although this example is 20th.century, it is hand made and is based on silver prototypes from the 17th or early 18th.centuries. It has many authentic constructional features such as hollow handles (lugs), out-turned rim and a 'spreading' foot ring.
